2021-2022 CT Valley Slate of Candidates

As a member of the Connecticut Valley Chapter of the ASSP, you are entitled to vote for your elected officers for the next chapter year.  The following people are looking to volunteer their time by running for officer positions in the chapter.

President – Elizabeth Velky, CLCS, RRE

Elizabeth Velky is a Risk Control Specialist on Gallagher’s prestigious National Risk Control Team, focusing on the Northeast Region. Based in the Glastonbury office, Elizabeth has had Loss Control experience in aerospace, healthcare, religious organizations, higher education, non-profit, and construction. Her goal is to promote Risk Management initiatives to Gallagher clients, in order to better serve their bottom line and encourage proactive safety and health programs. Elizabeth began her Risk Management career at CNA Insurance in the Risk Control Trainee Program before expanding professionally to a Risk Control Representative Position in Long Island. She then went on to a Risk Control Consultant position with the People’s United Insurance Agency. Her past experiences have allowed her to hone her client services and management abilities and foster ongoing insurance industry relationships. She earned a B.S. in Safety & Occupational Health Applied Sciences from Keene State College, and earned her Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist (CLCS) and Underwriters Laboratories Recognized Risk Engineer (RRE) designations. Elizabeth was also actively involved in American Society of Safety Professionals from college into her career; holding positions within her Student Chapter, then later to Secretary of the Long Island Chapter. She has held the Silent Auction Chair Committee Position with the Region VIII New England Area Chapter PDC from 2014-2018. She currently holds a position since July 2017 as a Trustee of the Next Generation Board with the ASSP Foundation.

President-Elect – Bradley York, CSP

Brad York began his safety career while in the Navy serving as a Laser safety officer, Safety manager for field service engineering, diving operations and two submarine construction projects. After retiring from the Navy, he provided safety consulting for Colt Manufacturing to realign their safety management system and training to the management team improving compliance and overall safety culture within the Hartford facility. Brad is currently a Sr. EHS specialist at Medtronic supporting research & development chemical and biology labs and surgical robotic development in North Haven, CT, Boston and Woburn MA. Brad earned his B.S. in Environmental Science from American Military University and M.S. in Executive Leadership from Liberty University. He currently holds a CSP and Technical Laser safety certification among others.

Vice President – Chip Darius, OHST, CET

Chip Darius has been providing occupational safety and health consulting and training services for over 25 years to general industry, construction, utilities and emergency service organizations (EMS, fire/ rescue, law enforcement). He is founder and president of Safety Priority Consultants, LLC. He has been an instructor for the OSHA Training Institute Region 1 Education Center since 2002, presenting OSHA regulations courses for construction and general industry, outreach trainer courses and refreshers, and many specific topics. He is an experienced expert witness in safety-related legal matters, in both state and federal courts. Chip is a frequent presenter at local, regional and national conferences and provides safety consulting and training across the US and internationally. He is a professional member of ASSP, has served multiple terms as an officer for the CT Valley Chapter, and has been a certified EMT since 1980.

Treasurer – Walt Tucker

Secretary – Jeremy Card, ARM-P, CSRM

Mr. Card is a Senior Risk Control Consultant for PMA Companies.  In this role, he is responsible for delivering risk control services to PMA clients in the Southern Connecticut and New York territories, based out of PMA’s Connecticut Branch.

Mr. Card has risk management experience in the insurance industry in both carrier and agency sectors, predominantly assisting clients with risk control tracking and trending of losses to develop appropriate safety programs to reduce losses.

Mr. Card holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Hospitality Management from Syracuse University, and Masters of Business Administration from Benedictine University.  He also holds the professional designations of Associate in Risk Management with the Public Entity focus (ARM-P), Certified School Risk Manager (CSRM), and Certified Insurance Service Representative.

Western Massachusetts Chair – Maryanne Steele

Delegate – Kevin Galotti, CSP

Kevin has nine years of experience in the safety field has been a member of the ASSP for four years.  He is currently the Safety/Risk Manager for Town Fair Tire in East Haven, CT.  He oversees the safety and health of more than 1,800 employees at 2 warehouses and 104 retail locations across New England.

Along with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of New Haven, Kevin holds a graduate certificate in Occupational Safety and Health from the University of Connecticut.  He also holds the professional designation of Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
