Lead, Environmental Health & Safety

L3Harris is seeking an Environmental, Health and Safety Lead to support the site located in Northampton, MA.

The EHS Lead drives the development, organization, administration, enforcement, and continuous improvement of EHS programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, county, local, and customer requirements. The EHS Lead will support the location performance toward meeting their injury rate and environmental sustainability goals, as well as continuous improvement and validation of their EHS compliance requirements.

This role

  • Oversees Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHS&S).
  • Serves as the subject matter expert in EHS&S to the Operations, Engineering, and Program Management/Development organizations.
  • Supported by a network of EHS&S professionals and corporate leadership within L3Harris.
  • Works in an environment that is a mix of manufacturing, repair, engineering, program development, and office activities.
  • Works on a 9-80 schedule, with availability to support additional shifts or programs as required.

Essential Functions

  • Supports all aspects of EHS&S performance, including injury reduction and avoidance, environmental sustainability initiatives, and meeting EHS regulatory and company requirements.
  • Conducts workplace surveys, safety audits, risks assessments, etc. and advises management of conditions requiring corrective action and tracks resolutions to an effective closure.
  • Focuses on continuous improvement and management of change of EHS programs in processes, systems, and products. Focus areas: Ergonomics, Chemical management, Hazard and Risk Assessments, and Hazardous Waste Small Quantity Generator.
  • Supports incident investigations and data/trend analysis to determine root cause, produces and maintains necessary documentation and ensures that all applicable reporting requirements are performed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ensure dissemination of ownership responsibilities for regulatory, corporate, and internal obligations throughout all business functions.  Develop written programs to define and training programs to disseminate these responsibilities.  Audit work practices to ensure adherence by employees and enforcement by management.
  • Regularly briefs the site operations and leadership teams on programs, trends, and action plans.
  • Remains current with all applicable regulations and company policies.
  • Establishes and maintains necessary contacts with city, county, state, federal regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains required records in accordance with regulatory and L3Harris requirements, to include but not limited to site permits and licenses, training, certifications, inspections, audits, etc.
  • Supports the standardization of EHS processes.
  • Responsible for monitoring and driving sustainability initiatives.
  • Performs related duties or special projects as directed.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years experience in a EHS role
  • Project leadership experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. or Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
  • Experience developing, training, and implementing EHS programs and trainings.
  • Ability to research technical information as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under general, consultative direction and manage programs independently.
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, presentation).
  • Competent computer skills related to Microsoft office, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.

Preferred Additional Skills

  • EHS-related professional accreditations: Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Professional Engineer, etc
  • Facilities Management experience 
  • Experience managing a budget with vendors and consultants for EHS compliance.
  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Involvement in high performance programs: VPP, ISO 45001, 14001
  • Strong root cause analysis skills
  • Experience using and leveraging EHS common systems, such as Gensuite
  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal, problem-solving, and analysis skills
  • Exhibits sound judgment and professionalism in all situations.
  • Ability to use data visualization tools such as PowerBI to analyze data for use in developing forward plans.
