Environmental Health and Safety Specialist

EHS Specialist with The Lee Company – Westbrook, CT.

The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for managing the organization’s safety programs to protect employees and the company and maintain safe working conditions. Formulates and suggests work safety standards and enforces procedures. Risk prevention areas include hazardous materials exposure, accidents, fires, or other unsafe conditions. Meets compliance and reporting requirements. Advises management on problem correction.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates the requirements and manages all Environmental, Health and Safety related initiatives and permitting. Act as subject expert on municipal, state, and federal legislation, including Occupational Health and Safety Act (OH&SA).
  • Maintain accurate information on the company’s Incident Management Reporting and work with leadership on timely reporting and investigation of loss events.
  • Develops and implements a variety of safety programs to ensure regulatory compliance as mandated by state and federal legislation. Conduct applicable training courses on-site as needed.
  • Oversees and manages the response to investigation of reports of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions; reviews recommendations and/or takes appropriate action to mitigate potential safety, health, and environmental risks.
  • Develops or assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with those of the company to ensure efficient and safe operation of the unit.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation and presentation of environmental health and safety training programs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in engineering or technical discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with progressive responsibilities in safety, environment, engineering or related experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations.
  • Good knowledge of the various laws governing EHS.
  • Good control of the various laws and regulations on the environment and regulatory affairs.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly collaborative spirit with a strong team and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite and/or other software

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to $80,000.00 per year
